Review Shopify Catalog Recommendations Before Editing in Admin
Turn a Shopify catalog recommendation into a clear editing brief, with verified product facts, a named owner and checks in Admin and the storefront.

A catalog review recommends changing a product description, moving an item into a collection and revisiting an availability message. Those suggestions may all be useful, but they do not describe the same operation. One changes a product fact, another changes merchandising, and the third may depend on information the review does not contain.
Before editing Shopify, turn each recommendation into a handoff that a store owner can evaluate. Identify the affected record, confirm the source, choose the smallest useful action and decide how to inspect the result. This makes the work easier to approve and reduces the chance that an editorial suggestion quietly becomes an operational change.
The example below uses North Shelf, a fictional homewares retailer reviewing a storage-box collection. It is a teaching scenario, not a SimsClaw customer story or a record of changes made to a real store.
North Shelf's review says a storage box has unclear measurements. The product has two sizes, and the shared description lists only one set of dimensions. The reviewer first records the product URL, the two variants and the wording a shopper currently sees when selecting each size.
That observation is more useful than “improve product information.” It tells the owner what to investigate without assuming where the correction belongs. The answer might be a clearer shared description, a size table or information already stored elsewhere that the current theme does not display.
Shopify's product details guidance describes the information available to organize and present products. Check the actual store setup before choosing a field. A product description and variant-specific data are different sources; changing one does not prove that every relevant customer view will change.
The owner obtains the current specification for each storage-box size. They check that the document applies to the variants being sold, that the units are explicit and that the measurements describe the outside of the box rather than its usable interior.
Only then does the editor prepare a replacement. The proposed copy identifies both sizes and explains which measurement answers which question. It does not add an unsupported claim about stackability, weight capacity or compatibility with a particular shelving system.
If the source still leaves a material question open, the handoff should request an answer instead of an edit. A task can end with “supplier confirmation needed.” That is a useful decision when the alternative is publishing a confident guess. The guide to choosing product, category and buying-guide work helps decide where a verified answer belongs once it exists.
The same review suggests adding the box to a seasonal collection. That decision needs different evidence: the purpose of the collection, the products already included and the store's merchandising plan. Correct dimensions do not establish that the item belongs in the collection.
Check how the actual collection determines membership before proposing a change. A store may use an explicit selection or conditions that include other products. The handoff should explain the intended result and which owner will evaluate its wider effect, rather than prescribing an unverified shortcut.
Availability deserves its own review as well. An old stock observation does not justify changing inventory or promising a restock date. If the concern is what to tell shoppers while a product is unavailable, use the out-of-stock content decision guide to distinguish useful communication from operational decisions.
| Handoff field | North Shelf's illustrative entry |
|---|---|
| Record | Storage-box product and its two identified size variants |
| Observation | Shared description explains only one size |
| Source | Current specification confirmed by the product owner |
| Proposed action | Replace the identified description section with approved size wording |
| Exclusions | No changes to stock, price, variants or collection membership |
| Operator | Store team member with the required access |
| Acceptance check | Both size selections show information consistent with the approved source |
Keep the supporting material accessible to the person doing the work. A task that links to an inaccessible supplier document forces the operator either to stop or to rely on someone else's summary. Resolve that dependency before assigning the edit.
Use an exact replacement when the task is editorial. If the proposed action is broader, list the affected records and decision boundaries. Avoid using “apply the recommendations” as the entire instruction for a report containing several different kinds of work.
The documented SimsClaw ecommerce workflow describes an advisory review of available store evidence. Findings depend on the connection, permissions and freshness of the underlying information. A recommendation is an input to the store team's decision.
The provider boundary matters: Shopify product and collection edits remain in Shopify admin in that documented workflow. Do not infer Shopify write capabilities from a separate WooCommerce workflow. Check the integration requirements when deciding which tasks can be assigned and which remain with the merchant.
For North Shelf's example, the human operator receives the approved handoff and performs the appropriate admin work. This article does not demonstrate a SimsClaw execution or certify a particular connected store.
After editing, compare the saved value with the approved wording. Then open the public product page, select each relevant size and read the information in context. Check that a second block of content does not contradict the corrected section.
If the stored value is right but the visible page is wrong, record that discrepancy and investigate the source of the display. Do not keep rewriting the description to compensate for an unresolved template or field-mapping problem.
Close the task with the page, selections and information actually checked. Keep sales impact as a separate question: accurate dimensions are a verified content result, not proof of increased purchases. For the broader review process, consult the weekly store review workflow. To evaluate SimsClaw for your store, start with its current ecommerce workflow and connection requirements, then use the access route provided there.
